Button CampaignThe button campaign was initiated in 2015 as a way to introduce GHHS, for which membership is only available to third year medical students, to the underclassmen. They also serve to highlight the "ICAREE" principles of GHHS: integrity, compassion, altruism, respect, empathy, and excellence. The buttons are passed out during the White Coat Ceremony to the matriculants.

Humanism Task ForceThe biggest leap in a medical student's curriculum is entering the hospital for clerkships. GHHS hosts a Humanities in Medicine Task Force, comprised of GHHS faculty and medical students, to heighten awareness of the concept of humanism early in medical education as a component of our Clinical Medicine Curriculum. It consists of a short film of patient vignettes illustrating perspectives of Detroit, and a panel of fourth year GHHS medical students and their clinical experiences.

Solidarity WeekThe Arnold P. Gold National Humanism Honor Society oversees the National Solidarity Day for Compassionate Care. Our Wayne State Chapter has decided to expand this to a full week of events, designed to encourage kindness and compassion towards patients. We began our week viewing Code Black, a movie made by physician and GHHS member Dr. Ryan McGarry, which follows charismatic residents in America's busiest ED. The week continued with a Meet and Greet aimed at the underclassmen, and preparing thank you cards and good bags to be distributed to the nursing staff, support staff, and the United Service Organization at local hospitals.
